I'm Hayley. I'm 49 years old and started running nearly 3 years ago.
Nickname: Mummio
Location: Cheltenham Gloucestershire
I run because… In running I've discovered a passion and an ability that I never dreamed would be there . In my life with 4 children and a business to run, I often feel like I have a million balls in the air that I'm juggling, but I think you can always make time for the things that make you happy and I believe it makes me a better parent and person.
AM or PM runner: AM when the world and my children are sleeping. Love singing along to a good tune at dawn with just the milkman about . Having said that now my youngest is a bit older I have been to more evening club sessions this year.
I run solo, with partner, pet or club: All four !! I run with my sister a lot and we go to a few club sessions in the week and if I'm not going too far I also run with my dog.
I run on trails, in my park, by the sea or in the city: I live in the Cotswolds and this year have done a lot more trail running, as my experience and confidence has grown. Also I run a lot around the village where Iive.
When running I wear: I hate being too hot so it's normally shorts or running tights with a vest top.
Favourite tunes whilst running / training: love listening to music whilst running anything goes really but it tends to be charts, throw back 80's or even belting out the odd ballad or two on a long run!!!
Favourite distance and why: Without doubt half marathon distance. I love the steady pace required of a long run and find it so relaxing.
Favourite race event and why: The Handicap Series that my club runs every year. In my first year with the club last year I won the Series and trophy, definitely a proud mummy moment seeing my children’s faces when their old mum brought a trophy home.
Favourite food: Got to be a medium rare steak on a Saturday night with all the trimmings, sets me up great for a Sunday long run or race .
Guilty pleasures:I have an obsession with Randoms, anything chocolate and Mix Up crisps.
Favourite race fuel: SIS gels, Bloks, Randoms and, also love Kind bars.
Running hero or athlete: Mo Farah.
Favourite running or motivational quote: "She believed she could, so she did."
Favourite running book, guide or magazine:Hal Higdon's Half marathon and Run Fast books.
Tip for newbie runners: Remember every step you take is making you stronger. You will have good runs and bad runs but whatever you do, just keep running.
My running goals are: to run a sub 2 hour half marathon.
Why I wear my run angel: It’s my job as a parent to keep myself as safe as possible for my children and loved ones, whilst doing something that gives me so much joy.
